La Bourrine

La Bourrine du Bois Juquaud is located at 4 km from the campsite, in Saint Hilaire de Riez. It gathers a few traditional houses of inhabitants of the marshes, dating from the beginning of the 20th century. This remarkable site offers an interesting visit and museum adapted to all ages.

The site is animated by volunteers of the Committee of users of the Bois Juquaud who keep the site alive: old crafts, traditional dances, music and marsh traditions are on the programme!

Salt marshes

The salt marshes of La Vie are absolutely worth a visit. First of all, the site is located at only 2 km from Camping Les Chouans. Secondly, the marshes are typical for the Vendée, as they have influenced the landscape and local economy. Last, but not least, the history of the marshes of Saint Hilaire de Riez will fascinate the entire family.

The marshes of La Vie carry the name of the Vie river, that runs near Saint Gilles Croix de Vie. The marshes were abandoned for more than a century until Anthony, who manages the site, decided to restore them in1999. Years of work took him to the final result, which he is happy to show you.

If you don’t have time to take the guided visit with the saltmakers on site, just make sure you visit the shop and discover the various products made with salt.

Discover “Le vélo rail de Commequiers” with your family. An afternoon fun that will allow you to walk, on the track, the 10 km betwen Commequiers from Coëx.

Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie : fishing port and marina

Don’t forget to visit Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, charming sea city with its two ports.

During your stay, give yourself a stopover at Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie.

Have a walk along the port dedicated to the fishing od the “blue fishes” (sardines, maquereaus, horse mackerels). Living place all over the year, it will suggest you different activities during the season, such as : sea trips, sea fishing initiation, departures for l’Île d’Yeu and also jet-ski location.

If you get up early, go have a walk along the fish market, it is worth it !

For lunch, have a break at the “banc des sardines”, a little hut on the port, where one can eat fish that has just been caught some hours before, it’s delicious !

Take your time and breathe the iodized air along the ports’ docks.

We advise you the Marie de Beaucaire walking, passing by the dune, and then the Great Beach.

Then admire the panoramic view of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie at the belvedere of the Dune de la Garenne.

Also discover the small streets with ancient fishermen houses, it is possible to visit one of them too !

Since these small streets, you will be able to do some shopping in the pedestrian street, in which are different shops (clothes, shoes, jewelry, decoration, souvenirs, photographers, …)

To end your day, you will be able to relax in front of a film at the Cinemarine, or play at the Casino.
